Ukulele Zen, the Ukulele Teacher, Ten Thumbs Pro, Aaron Crowell and have lots of free material on YouTube. I like Vasko from Ukulele Cheats, and he has some cool songs (though you may disagree). I think you'll know when you wish you knew a little more theory, and you can hit the book then. Personally, I wouldn't worry about the music theory at this point. Some of these are probably teasers for paid services, but they should be a good place to start. It even looks like there are a few 'courses' including a 10 day course from 'Andy Guitar'. But right now you don't know enough to know which is best for you, so I'd just google Ukulele Lessons. Like anything else, it's a matter of figuring out which person's approach is right for you. I think all of these, and many others, can help people learn. So it's more immediate, but might be harder to find what you want. One of the strengths of his site is that he responds to questions people have with a lesson on the topic. Aldrine has lessons, too, but I'd say they're less formal and structured. If you're looking for a structured program of study (at some expense), Craig Chee and Sarah Maisel have one on Artist Works, and James Hill has The Ukulele Way course. Cynthia Lin has a Patreon channel that emphasizes songs rather than general instruction, but you'll find many of her songs on YouTube, too. You'll find many of his song tutorials on YouTube, too.
TEN THUMBS PRO UKULELE FULL
His full Ukulele Underground subscription service has a lot of lessons for people of different skill levels. Paul is right about resting the joint if it's sore, and he's just generally brilliant on all things uke. There are lots of resources online. I also added a calcium supplement and a glucosamine/chondroitin/msm/ supplement. I also will use two or three fingers at times to reduce stress on one finger. I also have to be careful about strumming, it can make my right index finger sore, so I sometimes put a single wrap of scotch tape around the first joint, unless fingerpicking. With great playability and spot on intonation, I can’t recommend it enough Ben Rouse (Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain) The Mahogany tenor gets a resounding thumbs up from Ben Rouse an incredible virtuoso pro player who definitely knows a thing or two about ukuleles, and the very knowledgeable Barry Maz, who described it as a. I have to make an effort to be as light on the keys as possible, and also added that theory to fretting some time back. I spend long hours at work typing and that too takes a toll. For me personally it helps a lot and I too have to be careful of my left thumb and actually all my fingers. It seems to decrease the feeling that one needs to use the thumb as an opposing force. One trick for barre chords which often feel like one needs to press harder is to actually add a tiny little bit of downward pull to the fretting finger (down as in following the angle of the fret). It will be hot for a few hours, but never seems to take more than two applications over 24 hours to fix it up. I slather that on, put a layer of cayenne ointment over that, and some Tiger Balm over THAT so I won't notice the sting of the cayenne as much. Anything with those compounds in it will help me a lot on sore joints, even a bad knee.

I have some left over from my last horse, a lot of people using it as a liniment rub on their horse's legs accidentally found out it helped joint pain in their hands, it has glucosamine in it and cayenne. I don't know if it encourages the body to remove / reduce inflammatory reactions in the joint, but it helps me.Ī really great thing to try is a horse liniment called Grand Flex, lol. Not too icy and of course not scalding hot, but say a minute in one and then the other, just soaking the hand, for a few transitions back and forth. It definitely makes handling the neck and making transitions easier.Īlso try alternating soaking in ice water and hot water. One thing I found that really helps with that is using Lori's Uke Leash.

I do take care now to hold my uke as lightly as possible on the neck, and fret gently as possible. I have the same thing but it moves around all my fingers and other joints so I think it's basically age and hard use = arthritis for me.
